i was commuting to work last night. stopped on approach to a big round about to give way to oncoming traffic. then the car behind just hit me. bike thrown forward and me thrown to the side. saddle hit my hip and handlebars bent. rear wheel unserviceable. this is my first on road traffic collision. was badly shaken by the incident.

Aiiieee - not happened to me on the push-bike (several times on a motorbike though). Commiserations.

Reported to the police?

I've had 3 rear-enders in a car, twice at red lights and once while parked off road, 2 of them write-offs, so it's a danger I'm ever aware of (no matter whether I'm in a car or on a bike) and I have every sympathy with you.

I hope you got things sorted roadside (reg, insurance, witnesses, police) and that the driver didn't simply drive off. Oh, and get a doctor to look at you - it can take a fair while for the effect of the adrenalin to wear off leaving you with pain and injuries.

That's really bad luck and I'm not surprised you're badly shaken. I just hope that you've not got any serious damage to yourself and as others have said get it recorded with the police if you haven't done so already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you feeling today? Thats happened to me twice, 1983 and 2007, heres hoping you have a quick recovery and back on the road soon.

I only have experience of this whilst driving, the driver was looking for a gap in the traffic on the RAB rather than looking at the car in front that was slowing/stopping.

was fortunate that i didnt get hit badly. bike took most of the impact. i was putting my left foot down when it happened. the tip of the saddle hit the side of my hip. a bit of scratch and sore muscles to my hip but nothing serious. police got involved and checked drivers details which were legitimate. driver admitted fault and will be sent to road awareness course. hope to go back to work soon.

this is probably what has happened. the driver was asking me why i stopped, probably trying to blame me for his mistake.
