I'm struggling, one hand on top of the tumble dryer at present, seems very twitchy but that must be me. I also have a turbo but find this is a lot harder work. Just doing short bursts at about 80 RPM which is about 25 MPH for the equivalent of approx a mile or so. I might try a lower gear and try and relax a bit more. i found it easier when we put a slicked up mtb on the rollers, i think it puts more weight over the back wheel and it hasn't been anywhere near as twitchy.i found relaxing is the best way of staying balanced, as others have said lose the death grip.
we have our rollers close to a wall with a weights bench at the other side so there's no danger of coming off. At first we had a road bike on them.For the first 30 minute session i had my elbow against the wall all the time. On the second session i was more relaxed and looked at a fixed point on the floor about 10 - 12 feet in front of me,and relaxed pretty much like i do on the road. After about 10 minutes i was balanced though there were a few panic moments when i bounced off the wall.That was the hardest part - relaxing when the bike went sideways, grabbing harder at the bars makes things worse.High and smooth pedal revs makes balancing easier for me. Then we put the mtb on and it's been a lot easier .
Having a hand on the tumble dryer may be making you lean the bike to one side which will affect the balance and handling make it more difficult, i found just sticking my elbow against the wall allowed me to keep more upright and balanced.

The tumble dryer is on top of the washing machine so It's about the right height but you are right I do tend to lean over to that side. I have wardrobes on the other side so I will move to that side so I can just clear my shoulder.
I also tend to look down at the front wheel so I think i need to focus more in front of me.

My bike is a dutch bike with sit up bars so no hoods or drops yet.
Don't look down at the wheel and relax the death grip and it'll come.
The elbow against the wall trick worked for me. You'll soon be pedalling away without thinking about it.
Interesting to hear you feel it's harder than a turbo. Never been on one so nothing to compare to. I'm doing 30-40 mins a day and doing sprints a few times to mix it up pedalling as hard as I can in my biggest gear.
I like being able to alter resistance by changing gear so I can set off steady to warm up and loosen the legs, then knock it up a gear and go harder, sprint a bit, then have five mins easy pedalling to warm down a bit.
Iphone on a bar mount and watch iplayer or a movie!

If you're good enough yep. I can stand up a bit now but not really swinging it around. Bike is moving around a little all the time so you are using your upper body to balance it. Feels much more like riding on the road to me than a static bike. Not used a turbo but imagine it's just like being on an exercise bike?
