Gulp. I've used the translate app on my phone and 'Cingles' translates as 'rape'. Surely, in this context it must mean 'assault'.?? Any native French speakers out there?

You're not going to get raped off a mountain, it means 'madmen'.

Madmen it is. Thank you.
Did the ride and this morning, received the cycling jersey.

Here for rides.
cinglés = crazy person. Just asked the three native French folk in my room and they all gave variations on this theme.

So you are a member of the brotherhood of the nutters of mont ventoux. Which, given what you've done seems fair enough.

Hats off to you, I went up there on Monday, did the classic climb up from Bedoin, then descended to. Sault for lunch and then went back to Bedoin via the gorge de Nesque, which is a stunning 40km ride mainly downhill through beautiful scenery. The descent down into Sault through the lavender fields is pretty good too. Approx 90km all told, virtually all the climbing in the first 22km and thoroughly recommended for anyone wanting to do a single ascent of Ventoux.

The last think on my mind having done the climb once was to go and do another 2 variations of it, so chapeau to Betty S and the rest of the crazy Cingles.
