Traffic Island

Riding out of the village, a car overtook me, and only just got back in before the pinch point.

Sadly, the green Jaguar following, impatiently trying his luck, wasn't so fortunate and skidded to a halt wheels astride the kerbing?????

It was yout fault, you made him do it! LOL

I'm still waiting for my first, had the odd one slam on, but it wouldn't half be funny to hear them smack a curb with expensive wheels.

I have a number of these of my daily commute so what I tend to do is check what is behind me before I get there, pull out if safe into the centre of the lane to stop people trying to get past and then when I am past it I will check and then pull back in if safe.

Aye Fossy, but they would instantly blame you for it!

The Jag driver was waving his arms around like an epileptic at a Rammstein concert but, like a true bully, would not step out of the vehicle to discuss the matter further?

I do try to see it from their view, I really do - driving through a village (fact), coming up behind a cyclist (fact), car in front overtakes and gets past (fact), pull out and follow (fact), can't get past due to traffic island and skid to a halt (fact).

The only responsibility of the cyclist was that it (I) was there at the time.

All the other responibilities were the driver's: speed, position, safety, consideration, mistake, consequence.

Yet he still seemed (if his manic arm waving meant what I think it meant) like he though it was all my fault?

I have a mirror, and saw both of them coming, and was smack bang in the middle of the lane. 1st car got past (bit of a squeeze), nothing I could do about it. 2nd car (Jag) ended up astride the kerbing????

Be careful what you wish for... The problem is - if its a choice between slamming into a hard damaging kerb or soft fleshy cyclists... it might not be that funny in the end!

would love to see his accident claim...

whats the speed limit and what did he expect you to do , stop at the side of the kerb to let him past ???

yeah, indeed, though if he's skidding, he's not in control ... I guess there must have been oncoming traffic ? ?

30mph leading into National Speed Limit.

I think he just didn't want me there at all, or given that I was, he didn't want me encumbering his journey whatsoever.

No. Totally clear, but there is a 'keep left' on the island that he would have infringed.

so , no traffic, no peds.... why the hell didnt he drive round the thing the wrong way!! good grief !

just adds to my thoughts that drivers arent being aggressive or singling out cyclists for crap driving,, theres just a lot of drivers who are crap drivers who dont think when something 'a bit different' happens!!
