halfway along my route to work is a very steep section of hill, it's not very long but it's very steep and it always takes the wind out of me on the way in.

well today i thought "why not just get off and walk for once??", i mean, who's gonna care. it's pitch black and I'm in the middle of no where, no one ever comes past, why not just take it easy and walk it ???

so I'm half way up the hill, clipping along on my cleats and this guy comes riding past, sitting down, and gives a cheery "morning":blush::laugh:

i actually started chuckling and said "morning" in a kinda, "yes i know I'm walking :blush::blush:" sort of way.

so i decide I'm not gonna let him get way with it, but it's gonna be real fun trying to get started and clip in halfway up the hill :sad:

so i stop, position myself to swing my leg over the bike and as i turn to look down the hill....

another guy comes riding past !!!!! "morning" he says:blush::wacko::blush:

well bugger me. I've been using this route at the same time of day since June and I've never seen a single cyclist "out in the country" but on the one day i decide to walk the hill, the whole bloody town comes past :angry::angry:

scalped.... big time :sad::sad:

You've never seen a cyclist before because you're normally all going along at pretty much the same speed. You don't need much of a gap to never meet!

Walking, on the other hand, is a little slower........

LOL

I had pretty much EXACTLY the same thing on my way home today!

In the last couple of weeks, iIve done a lot of cycling, for me anyway.
Monday, for instance, I did my 32 miles commute, got home, quick bath and then 3 Hours nightriding on the MTB.

Rode to work today and my legs are really stiff and achey.
My route home takes in a climb similar to yours (also very remote, NEVER seen another cyclist on it) and I walked most of it for the first time in Years to rst my legs as I'm nightriding again tomorrow. Well, blow me if I don't get passed by three cheery cyclists, one after the other

This is probably why I never meet riders who are a little above my speed now. The riders who I can't keep up with are likely to be the only riders who will overtake me .

No it's not !
I completely agree, having climbed 1:5s on over 70" gears & paid the price for the following week or so, unless you're trying to go up a 1:4 with say 85" gearing, at which point you're a numpty for choosing inappropriate gearing to start with.

I did Anerley Hill both ways today on fixed. 69" though, I like to spiiin. 180rpm down Leaves Green too. +1 to Fossy, fixed is usually a little faster uphill.

My bum hurts, and my shoulders, neck and back are stiff. Thank goodness I'm back on the comfy low flying deckchair tomorrow.

I used to have a bike with no gears. If I saw a hill, I'd speed up before I got to it and just about make it over!:bravo: Used it in Reddish Vale Country Park too and beat my fastest time to get to Stockport town centre from Salford on it: half an hour (with a five minute rest at the bus stop, so technically 25 minutes). Not great, but it was way faster than I'd ever been before.
I thought it would be awful going up hills, but it wasn't actually too bad.
