Yeah I've pushed out today's route to total 35 mile with 2500 ft and I can tell already (12 miles from home and 750ft to go) that it'll be a hardish day- and not one that I could repeat day after day.

My old job was around that but I'd by a flexi pass for the train and took the train to work and cycle home. I think my body could have took the full route as it was largely downhill on the way out but I didn't want to be sitting sweating in an office with no facilities.

Keeping the job is the main thing...

Worrying that your commute isn't long enough is a fortunate place to be compared to many.

3000 feet of climbing a day is crazy...
Ah but if you end up back at home it's 3000 feet of descending as well.

You can get used to anything, given enough practice. For about 2.5 years now, my round-trip commute has had about 2600 feet of climbing, and if I can do it in my late 40s, I'm sure others can. So go for it, @helston90 , and best of luck with it

Me and my folding 8 speed Dahon Mu do this sort of commute. Bus and bike. The Dahon is easily up to it. 20" wheels.
