Keep it in your pocket, and use the navigation on audio for directions. Bouncing it up and down on the handlebars is a good way to damage a very fragile piece of expensive kit.

I like to see a map though! I'll give it a go and see what happens

Which app do you use if you don't mind me butting in?
I use Sportypal, mainly because ive recorded so much with it and would lose the history if i changed program. It was by far the best for analysing stuff IMHO, but id probably use Endomondo if i were to start over now.

Well said

I had one of those bike phone holders once. I fitted it, put my phone on it and went out for a ride. The phone fell out of it less than 100 feet from my drive way.

I would echo Linf's suggestion. Lanyards are extremely cheap, and your lovely smartphone wouldn't be anywhere near as nice if it fell off your bike and the screen smashed, or it got run over!

The landyard is a good suggestion as if if springs out, it will be likely to be damaged considerably, I agree with that completely, but I don't agree re. the comment about mobile phones being particularly fragile. Provided that it is mounted securely and protected from the weather, then it will be fine.

I have mine in this little pocket on my handlebars, it sits around my secondary brake levers. Maybe also sandwich bag if in heavy rain.

I run a USB power cable from one of these big batteries (4-5x more than my phone's original battery alone) to my handlebars so my phone is always "on charge". This must be done carefully with minimal strain on the charging plug.
