Gravesend - Portsmouth

I am starting my tour from Gravesend and looking for best route to Portsmouth. \would you go straight down to south coast and along or up to South London and down.

Cant help with the route, but I'll give you a wave if you pass thru Longfield.

Up the river, turn left at Greenwich and take the Sustrans route south towards Gatwick
Then route 22

Never done London-Pompey, in either direction, on that route (NCN 22), though I've ridden most if not all of it. Strikes me as going the long way round for no good reason, it certainly won't be any less lumpy (quite the reverse), and quite a few extra miles.

Yes, maybe it's been changed/finessed, but there used to be some really barmy stuff on that route. I definitely wouldn't want to do it on a loaded bike.
