Cycled past rock steady eddies cafe at Denmark hill on saturday I remember going in there at the age of 16 i am now 49 still using the saame menu and probably not been decorated since. The guy charges extra if you want sausages with your breakfast lol genuis. To me its a London Landmark. It seems most londons cafes are disappearing only to be replaced with costas. What cafes are special to you and why.

Just so this is not a london Thread would also like to mention Mr Egg in birmingham, the sign was right outside brimingham news street station you could eat like a king for £1, something tells me that was probably false advertising lol.

Have you seen the old man
In a closed-down market?
Kicking up the paper
With his worn out shoes
In his eyes, you see no pride
And held loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper
Telling yesterday's news

So, how can you tell me you're hungry?
And say for you that McDonalds don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the greasy spoons of London
You'll eat something that make you s*** your behind.

Not a greasy spoon, but a kebab house. Just down the road from Denmark Hill, in Camberwell, is The Golden Grill. Still going strong 40-odd years since it used to provide the mainstay of my diet.

There's a couple round near where I work, mainly because they cater for all the workers at Smithfield Meat Market who work overnight and clock off as the market closes at about 7-8am. However when the market finally ups sticks in 2028, my guess is that these places will close at the same time.

Barnet,
Dory's cafe in Barnet has been there since 1954, next to where the market used to be.
It is still in the same families hands after all these years.
