If it's old black and white it's got to be The Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep. Or Passport to Pimlico or Kind Hearts and Coronets or Secret Life of Walter Mitty or Harvey or...

Yes, I too filled my pants the first time I saw it when I was about ten years old in the early seventies.

Agree totally about Colonel Blimp, did you know Churchill tried to get it banned for some reason!

I've just watched another P&P film: 49th Parallel. Once you get over the fact that the Nazis spoke English and had a posh accent it's an excellent film, particularly the ending.

My workmate did tell me today, though he's convinced it WAS banned. I found nothing on the film websites about an actual ban.

The Big Heat
The Maltese Falcon
Dark Passage
Casablanca, which I'd like to remake in a modern day north west setting and call it Casablancaster

and of course Whistle Down the Wind, of which I'd like to make a follow up; Whistle Down the wind 2... set 15 years later when Blakey finally gets out of prison and goes hunting all the kids whom he now blames for his years of incarceration... it's a slasher movie.
