Thats not the spirit, i know how you feel but Once your out there you feel motivated and better at the top of each hill (well I do)... I just wish I had the choice! My week this week

Monday - Meetings in London so train no bike
Tuesday - Attend Exhibition in London so train no bike
Wednesday - Midwife appointment with the wife so didnt leave for work till 10am, had to drive no bike!
Thursday - Attending a different exhibition - so train no bike
Friday - Meetings i have to Drive to get too car no bike!

Now that is demotivating! a whole week with no choice of whether to ride or not! never mind the P word!

Same here 2 in 2 days, one last week and IIRC one the week before  There's an estate I cycle through where they seem to burn out a motorcycle / car EVERY night leading to glass and all sorts of other (sharp) debris all over the place

I dropped the bike into my LBS in order to fit some Marathon+'s, I was running on slick Maxxis detonators, be interesting to see what difference the new tyres make to the ride, still not 100% sure about them, could be a costly experiment!

I was thinking about the Marathons .....only trouble is i read a review that said if they do actually puncture, they are so tight that it takes two people to get them off and back on again. That kind of thing could really ruin a 12 mile commute.

Well, here's hoping they dont then! ;)

If anyone's even vaguely interested I'll post a "first impressions" thing tonight / tomorrow after I've ridden them tonight / tomorrow, I know they will have more rolling resistance than the slicks I have currently, the question is whether it's more than I'm prepared to compromise over!

excellent i'd certainly be interested in your impression.....can you do dame edna???

When you pick the bike up ask them how hard they are to fit. Im really interested in getting some but this does put me off.

I also heard that rolling resistance is compromised very little on the marathons so might not be too much of an issue.

The M+ can be a bit off a pain to get back on (getting them off is easy), but with some good lever action you can get them on in a few minutes.
They are near impossible to get on with your bare hands.
But that is not a problem as you won't get punctures. I commute daily through West/North London and I have yet to have a puncture.
The last part of my commute goes past a huge metal recycling depot and they is always rubbish on the road aroound it.
I now don't worry about broken glass in the road. I'll try to avoid it if possible but if I don't, I don't worry.

You will notice more rolling resistance, but a small price to pay for bombproof tyres.

Well possum, I can answer the how hard to fix question as I took the tyre off and refitted it and IMHO it wasn't too bad at all, harder than the 700x28's I had on there before, but I did it by hand quite easily, this could be because I've got the 700x25c's as opposed to the MB tyres which I've heard are more difficult.

Rolling resistance is not a problem, I can barely tell the difference

Overall, VERY happy with them, BUT slightly less happy about my LBS which left the 700x28c tubes, which means I can't inflate fully without popping the tyre out of the rim (or bursting the tube, hence the reason I had to refit!)

The thing that puts me off M+ (and I've been plagued by punctures lately) is not so much rolling resistance as the fact they weigh about 2 kgs apiece. I'll be interested to read your impressions.

I can notice the weight when I pick the bike up, but it's not noticeable when riding.
I was concerned about the weight too, but it's a non issue having ridden on them

Just need to swap over the inner tubes now though so I can pump the tyre up properly!

I take it back, I changed the inner tubes to the correct size and the M+'s are a NIGHTMARE to get seated correctly, and there's no way they're gonna get anywhere near the 115psi max they quote!

Has anyone got the 700x25c variants of these tyres anywhere near 100psi??

I got my 700x25 to 125psi the other day:ohmy:
Having used the standard Marathons with the Kevlar belt & finding them
next to useless on my commute, I Bought 700x28 Marathon Plus for my
hybrid & 700x25 for my road bike.
Yes they are a sod to fit, yes they are heavy & dont roll as well as slicks but I'll take all that cos since fitting them in December & commuting over
1000 miles since, so far not one p******e:biggrin:
( I do realise that having said this I will now probably be plagued with
` unexpected deflations ' )
