Red light at a staggered junction. Opposing traffic is on green and turning right. My light turns green, cars next to me set off and I push off, looking down momentarily to check my clip-in. When I look up there is a white van where there should be clear road - he'd raced to turn right in front of the cars and musn't have seen me (1 flashing front light, 1 steady, hi-viz jacket - go figure) and he literally passed inches in front of my front wheel as I hit the brakes.

Fair shook me up

I was lit like The Blackpool Tower + Hi - Viz on Monday but it didn't take much for WVM to overtake and throw a left.Yeah im sure he didn't see me.(not)

Knob.

You need a brighter light, you'd be amazed at the different it makes, hi-viz is useless if drivers don't look for it...

Oh, I get this most mornings at one junction - had at least 3 where I have shouted down the car - i.e. got them to stop - one with a neighbour behind me. PS they see you, just chancing it.............

The drivers are just going for it as the filter goes off, but it's one of the Junction's I know very well so can execute the shout down well. 99% of the time drivers aren't daft and it's OK. PS there is usually a car up my arse as I pull away anyway.......

Lights and hi-viz are very good but they won't help in this situation - that van reckons he can get across in front of you and chances are he'd have done the same if you were in a car.
Back home (south Manchester) the light sequence of one slightly staggered junction has been resequenced to include a filter to prevent this sort of situation occurring. I used to cross the junction regularly and the best way of preventing issues was to get eye contact with the oncoming car and give them a good long stare that way they knew that you had right of way and were going to take it.
