Does any one know what time the Greenwich Tunnel Lifts actually start running?

The website states 7am are they normally on time or is it worth leaving 15 minutes later to ensure that they are open in time.

Wikipedia says "The tunnel is classed as a public highway and therefore by law is kept open 24 hours a day. However, the attendant-operated lift service is only open from 7am to 7pm on weekdays and Saturdays, 10am-5.30pm on Sundays, with no service on Christmas Day or Boxing Day; staff shortages and other problems mean that even during these times the lifts are often unavailable"

So sounds like it's not very reliable even between these hours!!

I'm afraid I've never been there at 7am, but they close at 6.59pm on the dot, and by close I mean shut down and the lift man goes home, so that means the last passengers are about 6.45/6.50 although you may get one last trip about 6.55 if you are lucky.

The lifts are unreliable mostly due to technical problems, and one end or the other is often closed for days at a time. They are due to be replaced in the next year or two.

There is also no toilet, so that the lifts have to close for 10 mins every hour or two for the operator to nip to the public loo, which in both cases is a couple of hundred yards away
