As if this time of year isn’t bad enough, with rain and dark early evening...they have to add grit into the mix!

I find them to be quite considerate when I'm cycling - they often stop spreading as they pass and switch the swiveller on further down the road.

I do try and keep out of their way, but I don't think they're as bad as they used to be.
Either the grit they use is in smaller clumps now or they've figured out a better way of spreading it - I can remember as a kid diving behind parked cars to shelter from the little projectiles being fired from gritters.

I think it might be them trying to economise on the amount they spread due to budget restraints................that was my thinking anyway as it seems much more sparse compared to what they used to put out.

I know they are on a hiding to nothing & can only work on the meteorology provided, but around here they seem to get it wrong so many times, they spread the grit & it's not that cold/freezing, they don't & it's the coldest night so far this year.

Maybe so - it's difficult to tell here as we only live half a mile or so from the gritter depot, so some nights we can have a dozen or more go past our house. At the junction at the end of the street where they have to give way, there is often a load of grit piled up!
