I think it is important to record these events (not all of course, I certainly don't post everything I see). It provides some balance to the anti cycling arguments that are often used against us.

For example someone says to me, 'cyclists jump red lights' I can point to footage of cars/buses etc jumping red lights.

Jake, I certainly wouldn't be posting everything you see. I tend to post the interesting examples (ok I think they are interesting!) or the videos that I think make a point.

Funnily enough, all my commutes at the moment seem to incident free. Maybe everyone knows who I am now and my videoing has had its desired effect. I doubt it somehow...

Hmmm it seems to me that whatever I film people will always turn to me and say "you only film what YOU want us to see". Sometimes more abusive than that obviously

I'm starting to become of the persuation that if I see something really bad or naughty then perhaps I should be burning a video dvd and posting it anonymously to both the police and the local press. Also keeping it off youtube incase I get caught up in the impending cr** that follows

I often have a good chuckle at the "You saddo" "Get a life you can't" type comments!! I reckon most of them are caused by the implicit possibility for their own bad driving to be filmed, and to me this is positive re-inforcement to carry on doing what we're doing. If people are seeing their impatience and carelessness being filmed like this, and not liking it, there's a good chance that they are less likely to do more of the same. There will be an even stronger effect on those company drivers that have been hauled up in front of their managers.

What are all us cycling videographers now? Unpaid PCSOs?

Best comment I ever had was someone accusing me of driving a car, with lots of swearing.

I do sometimes think that my own videos dont encourage would-be cyclists to get out of the car. I think we videographers (or perhaps that should be cydeographer?) could do more positive videos now and again.

What do you guys reckon on that?

I think that's probably true, although on my commute I see more more vehicles jumping red lights than cyclists. I'm quite happy for them all to be fined/get points as appropriate, I just wish more focus was put on traffic policing of all sorts.

Which would create a political backlash from motorists who claim being fined for committing 'moving traffic violations' is a stealth tax.

It won't happen anyway, the police are too busy sorting out 14 year old school girl's MSN chatroom fall-outs, and talking down a suicidal woman from jumping off a bridge (for the 12th time this week).

Seriously I really do see more cyclists RLJ.Just because they possibly won't kill anyone does not make it right.

I worked it out eventually,yes I probably see more cyclists whereas you don't which makes your comment as well as mine feaseible.

I can't say too much ( I really can't) but some of those vans are not used for what you may think and they are not driven by "normal" employees. As such they follow some rather special exemptions. ( Obviously if involved in an RTC then they are liable)
