Grrr - Paypal rant

Bloody Paypal. I bought some T shirts off a website on 20th June. When they hadn't arrived by Saturday, I emailed them and got the following response:

"Hello "john winder"

We were told by paypal that your email for an order was "a scam".

No cash was transferred. No order was placed. Therefore no tshirts get delivered.

Of course we're delighted to accept genuine purchases - and we fulfill orders immediately.

If yours is a genuine order, please advise, and we'll verify through paypal.

regards,

Banana Meinhoff."

Now, I've heard nothing from Paypal and when I logged into my account, I discovered that I had to physically cancel the transaction within 30 days or it would be "retained". In other words, I've transferred £40 into my Paypal account, it's been declined by the seller and Paypal will keep it if I don't cancel the transaction. Would it kill them to actually tell me this, rather than leaving me to find out from the seller?
One snotty email already sent ... I await their response.
