I've just had a call from an online electronics firm asking about my order.

Me: What order?
Shop: Your order for two LCD screens.
Me: What two LCD screens?
Shop: The two that you have just spent £600 on and are having delivered to London.
Me: Oh bugger!

That's me no bank account card for a while and £600 less in my account.

Very annoying as I only use secure online sites, I shred my mail, etc. Yet they had my bank details, address and telephone number. (They must have had the security code as well!)

At least the electronics firm did their checks and so the little scrotes will not be getting their LCD screens.

I am not amused!!!

Happened to Mrs T as well Magna, not long ago. She NEVER shops online and I do a lot, but it was her details they had got hold of. As Archibald says, at least it's been detected. Our bank were pretty quick off the mark to detect it, which is relatively reassuring.

Yes I expect to get the money back but it's a right pain and it makes me angry that it's a faceless crime. I have no-one to shout at!!

Mind you I am interested in the fact that domtyler knows about my web browsing habits and happens to live in London......

I got phoned up by someone trying to sell me insurance against this kind of thing happening. It was £70, and what you get for that is the fact that the company is linked to experian and they send you a text every time someone applies for credit in your name, and if it wasn't you, then you get 'assigned a case worker', but what that involves god knows. I turned it down, on the basis that the case worker probably doesn't do anything you can't do yourself.

I suppose that's one advantage of having maxxed out lots of credit cards when I was a student - I can't get credit in my name any more, but nobody else can either!


Another anecdote, once years ago I did find a suspicious looking transaction on my bank statement that I couldn't remember making, it was a card purchase. I queried it and my then bank barclays refunded it instantly, 'pending further enquiries'. They then sent me a photocopy of a receipt signed by me proving that I did do it and took the money out of my account again... turns out it was one of these shops that the trading name is different from the shop's name

Happened to me last week. On Monday I went to get cash out and it told me "no chance". Turned out some theiving toerag had spent all of my money and all of my overdraft.

Seeems they had a great time, bought a few laptops, got a US visa and some plane tickets and then stayed in Houston for a few days attending IT training courses. Slightly odd behaviour.

Very annoying as I have to do all the paperwork to get the monmey back and until then I don't have any!
