Sorry, not been but I'd like to.

Have a free thread bump on me though :okay:^_^

Not been to Guatemala, but I have been to Belize, which borders the place. From what I remember, it was roasting hot, we had been doing a Falklands patrol and had come back on the 'wrong' side of South America, taking in Valparaiso in Chile, Guayaquil in Ecuador before going through the Panama and mucking about around the US & British Virgin Islands. :okay:

Sounds like a great country to visit. ^_^
None of that would put me off an adventure, but I'd be circumspect in my activities. One of the best holidays I had was to Belgrade, while it was still virtually closed to tourists after the war. When we got our visas, we were the only ones to be granted them that day.

I'd also check I could get travel insurance to cover all eventualities before booking tickets.

( :hello: @vickster )

I went to Tikal and Antigua in about 2003 as part of a sightseeing trip of Mayan ruins in Mexico and Guatemala. I loved it.

Not sure I would fancy cycling there. Traffic is 'shut your eyes and trust in God'.

We’re joining a tour in Antigua that goes up to Tikal, Belize, Yucatan, but we’ve got about 4 days beforehand to go to Atitlán for some birdwatching, chilling and a gentle off road guided cycle probably

Same continent, different country, but a Brazilian mate of mine, now a UK resident, explained the riding plan in some parts of Brazil...
If you’re riding in the evening, or at night, in a group, don’t all ride together. Spread out a bit, as then a jaguar (not the car, Jaguar) will only attack one of you, not all of you...

Hope this helps! ^_^

I sponsor a young girl who lives in Guatamala. I get regular reports on what the charity are trying to do over there - improving health care facilities, encouraging education especially for girls, campaigning against child marriage, etc.

Not much use for you planning your holiday
