I thought it was actually a rather good fall, wasting the energy nicely. More of a near roll than a sack of spuds. Gets a 10 from a skate instructor. ;)

No, my head did not hit the ground.

Interesting....had you been wearing a helmet, it looks like it would have struck the ground...and then some folk would have been pointing out the marks on it and saying 'thank goodness you had it on....it saved your life!'....;)

Seriously, it's a good example (not for you of course) of how the shoulder often protects the head during a cycling crash, assuming you don't fall face or back first.

Mmmm. Maybe shoulder pads would be better at protecting peoples heads....

I think it's a natural reaction to try to keep the head off the floor.

I've seen a frame snap before (cheap bike) and I've heard of snapped bars happening, but this is the first time I've ever seen it. Hope you're feeling better soon, Origamist.

Thanks. My right hip/thigh and upper arm/shoulder took the brunt of the fall -which is the way I like it (good at dissipating impact forces). I just had enough time to avoid a frontal splat and wrist/collar bone damage, but I was lucky more than anything.

Quite - it's instinctive self-preservation. That said, no other vehicle was involved and I had a tiny bit of reaction time - other people are not so fortunate.

magnatom, interesting point when I came off at high speed about the only bit of my body which didn't hit something was my head.

I'm going to err more on the side of caution from now on. New bars after any spill or 20K miles.
I tend to go with a decent knock to the bike or the warranty period for the 'bars. Interesting point about de-burring Oval & some other brands only guarantee their 'bars when used with their stems. With the race bike I went the whole hog & one piece stem/drops in carbon expensive but lifetime warranty.

Yikes! My laptop is so slow it only runs Youtube as a set of stills, but that looked nasty!;)

All the best for a speedy recovery! I'd be very nervous after a fall like that...

Well that was easier for you, I had to download it, get it enhanced, clean it up and painstakingly select the frame I wanted. Still, the finished product does make me grin:biggrin:

It's heart warming to see you being so kind to a fellow cyclist.

I would have expected you to rip into gaz for providing sub-standard video footage.

Glad you're OK origamist, could've been nasty.

Very good point 3BM, in my glee at getting an enlarged still of O suffering(I'm sure I've seen a dodgy video around that subject!), I totally overlooked the piss poor service from Gaz.

No humerous captions, running commentary, links to uncompressed footage download, etc. His version of drama was 'guess the cyclechatter?', well whoopee doo. Starting the video with an image of a junior hacksaw, some evil sound effect laughter and a 'what happens next' caption, would have been a step in the right direction.

Don't give it to MacB - he's a chatroom stalker/groomer. His avatar may make him look like a harmless buffoon (3 years of tireless photoshopping no doubt), but in real life he's an ugly, predatory monster who abuses CCers on night rides (mostly with his droning "me", "me", "me" anecdotes and creaky knees). Some of the more vulnerable riders prefer to cycle into the sea rather than chat to him about golf.

Gaz, can you send me the 760 HD sequence - my mates will enjoy it...
