well its still flooded, but I made the stupid mistake of cycling back along it when its wet tonight, after only a few miles of the bike is covered in shoot all over.
complete strip down again tonight, and put it back together again tomorrow.
I hate it , I really hate it, I wish they never built the stupid thing, cause it so tantalisingly good when its dry and not flooded, but bloody useless when its wet and flooded, which in this country it mostly is.

Nightmare- just such a shame - Mister s is still coming via fenstanton to keep me company and avoid the floods and debris but what a waste of a chance for a great cycle route
7am at fenstanton clock tower Monday if you fancy it
Have a good weekend

Or rather unlike, I join at Swavesey, and every day I spend an age cleaning the bike, it is so tempting, but the amount of 'sand' type stuff that gets thrown up is just amazing. I'm almost tempted to weigh it after collecting it on the bin liner in the office.

When I stripped it all down Friday and re built on Saturday, there was this sand stuff inside the top cap of the Stem. How the hell does it get there? but when its dry its brilliant, but the 15 minutes and 3 miles it saves are no longer worth the 8 hours of a bike strip down and re build. Cause as I learned on the MTB, if you keep accumulating it and never clean it off it destroys the components. The MTB took 4 days to re build back to showroom condition after 4 months of wet on the GBW.

The whole thing is bloody useless.

I've noticed the sand too, in one way its good as it actually makes me clean the bike every weekend, its now become routine/habit so it's not too much of a chore, and it's nice to see everything clean and shiny when its put back together again

I tend to agree but don't. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. To me the GBW is a Godsend (I'm atheist btw), not having to constantly worry if the vehicle approaching from behind is going to be my last or getting forced off the road. You can just relax and cycle. For me the crud, nud and shoot are a daily bone of contention especially the horse sh1t, but in the wider scheme of things it's far better than riding on the roads AFAIAC. Yes it could be a lot better. The idiots at Shire Hall that are so incompetent to have allowed Cambridgeshire Council Tax payers, ie me, to be short changed for a route that spends 6 months of the year flooded should all be SACKED with loss of pensions as well.

Agree
Luckily live in fenstanton so do not generally use the northern section BUT crazy it was built without raising it above the flood plain and as kev notes - the sand is crazy - clean bike on sunday and looks like you never have by Monday.... roll on the summer

TBH I haven't noticed the sand so much as I have full guards. It's the horse sh1t I object to. Why are the beasts even allowed on it at all? I like horses but just not on the GBW or in Findus foods.

Could not agree more - how can it be legal to deposit all that mess on tarmac and just leave it there - a frozen pile of it almost had me off when I hit it last cold snap (must be a findus joke in there somewhere but let's not go there)
I only have crud catchers -good for keeping me mostly clean but does not stop all the sand a grit kicking up on the shoes and chain etc etc (don't have mudguard mounts)

outlash

also available in orange
When the plans were first drawn up for this project, I was slightly put out that it wasn't heading towards St. Neots but now seeing how it's gone wrong on so many levels, I'm quite glad actually .

I think you have the best of it all mate, you don't need to get in or out of shoot Ives, and can use the busway to its potential,
Fenstanton for the Win !!

I never notice the horse poop, but never mind its still flooded, its all under water !! floating around waiting
Back on the A1096 into St Ives, the Low Road is rubbish so thought I would see how this goes for a while.
Next place I live, cycling to work is a big factor to take into account.
