total respect. That is one heck of an admission and you'll be pleased to hear that you have fallen in my estimation!
Blimey, you've fallen in the estimation of someone who admits to liking
Candle in the Wind? There may be no lower place to go!
Like rich_p, I have to make a distinction between some things that are just too crap to like (and these are generally people like Chris de Burgh, Elton John or Enya, who seem to think that they are actually good) and things that are cheesy but enjoyable.
My guilty pleasures are generally melodramatic - from Glenn Campbell (
Wichita Lineman is gorgeous) to Abba - '
Knowing Me, Knowing You' is just a great song (with a fantastically cheesy video), for example, in fact I love the whole
Arrival album. In fact pop disco in general... you can't beat the Bee Gees' '
Stayin' Alive' (with another awesomely awful video). Gloria Gaynor's '
I Will Survive', (oh yeah,
roller disco video!) or Michael Jackson's '
Billie Jean', can you? Or for that matter a proper gay dance anthem like Sylvester's '
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'? I guess gay disco is my real guilty pleasure...
