Guilty pleasures?

Mostly, I eat healthy food, but occasionally I love a blow-out on a particularly guilty pleasure.

Three of my more shameful ones are as follows:

Ben & Jerry's ice cream. An entire tub, eaten in one go, with a spoon straight from the tub.

An entire 700g pack of hash browns, baked until they are super-crunchy and sprinkled with even more salt than they already contain!

An entire pack of smoked bacon in a half-baguette and slathered in mayonaise.

Luckily, I have the metabolic rate of a small rodent and so I can eat that stuff without putting on any weight. (Much to my Mother's chagrin - luckily I inherited skinny genes from my Dad, rather than fat genes from my Mum).

So what are your guilty pleasures? And do you indulge in them by the bucketload as I do? Oh, the excess!

The phrase "you have the metabolism of a herd of wildebeest" was once used to describe my capacity for burnng through excess calorific intake. Having my chest ripped open by a heart surgeon has encouraged me to be more considerate to my internals, however, although I find it all but impossible to cut down on coffee. Two sugars please...

Both my wife and I are chocaholics though Mrs P has recently moved on to Werthers Originals. If chocolate is available I have to eat it but if there is none I can survive without. I try very hard to avoid buying chocolate.

Bassett's jelly babies last about ten minutes in my company and I do find them truly compulsive. Denying the urge to buy a packet is very hard.

The thing is - I don't feel guilty.

No, me neither. Fortunately, such earned pleasures (for that is what they are ;) ) are not a daily occurrence.

There's nothing particular that I treat myself to. It could be a magnum ice cream, or a couple of white chocolate and cranberry cookies but perhaps the most frequent one is a glass of single malt of an evening. That really does work for me.

A whole packet, I hope! Anything less is failure ...

Seriously though and in the light of what Cardiac said about his heart, I reckon the real reason why I'm not super-sized is because I do a lot of exercise and most of my meals are healthy (brown rice, veg, fruit, nuts, pulses, not much meat, etc) and about once a week or once a fortnight I'll indulge in one of my guilty pleasures!

I've not bought any sweets, chocolate, biscuits, crisps or cake from a shop for two months now, since I can eat a whole tub of Ben and Jerry's in one sitting - but without the benefit of a helpful metabolism!

Instead, I'm restricting my intake to something I've baked myself or when I'm out and I'm enjoying it much more.

Biscuits/jaffa cakes. I buy them to have in my office, as biccies don't last 5 mins at home (3 nippers) and I rarely get a look in. So, stick them in my desk drawer. They rarely see the day out

entire tub of ben a jerry's Phish food...

buttermilk scones -no fruit slathered with clotted cream, repeat until cream is gone!

very guilty indeed...

McVitie's Dark chocolate digestives, consumed 3/4 pack last night whilst ironing shirts for work. Luckily they are on offer at £1 a pack at the local supermarket, Got 3 packs yesterday which probably won't last the week.

High on the list is also Cadbury's Fruit & Nut, the bigger the bar the better.
