It's happened a few times but there's a certain type of cyclist who give the rest of us a bad name.
Today, the difference between runners and 'a certain type of cyclist' was graphically illustrated. I was out on my bike this afternoon and saw a fellow runner who has the same mutual dislike of me as I do of him but we always have enough respect to acknowledge the presence of the other.
A couple of hours later though. coming up the steep hill out of Widdop (for those who know it), a young cyclist caught me at the bottom and was clearly intent on 'beating' me to the top, which he did with no challenge from me. He didn't acknowledge me at all in passing though but when he got to the top, he quickly rummaged in his bum-bag and produced a cheese sandwich which he ate as though he'd been there for so long, he was enjoying his dinner. I again nodded at him but he turned his face away so I asked him if he thought he was too good for 'the likes of me' but he ignored me again. So I told him I thought he was so stuck up himself, he was in danger of coming out the other side. Not even a flicker of noticing my presence. I'd hate it if he was the only cyclist on the road if you needed some assistance from one.
