I have a singlespeed chain on my road bike and I recently swapped the 18t rear cog to 16t.
I can't get another link out of the chain so the slack is ridiculous, the tensioner works but the chain wrap isn't great.
I have a half link chain for my mtb that is still in the box so I was wondering (as it may be to short for my road bike)

1.Can I use the half link chainlink on a normal ss chain

2. Can I add a small peice of singlespeed chain onto the half link chain

Just means I can get on the bike before waiting for bits to arrive

TIA

There's no reason why you can't add a small length of chain in providing they are the same size (both 1/8 or both 3/32).
Edit- I suspect the 1/2 link will be 1/8 and your road chain will be 3/32
I'd be concerned that if your old chain is worn (even slightly) the new section will give a tight spot, so if you tension your chain to the tightest spot (as you should) you'll risk having a very slack chain in other spots and risk it coming off.

Why can't you remove another link from your existing chain?

The half link shouldn't be too short if it's new and un-shortened. That said however, half link chains are notorious for "stretching", the side plates straighten very very quickly.
