Halfords and ebike repairs

Just been in Halfords (yes - I know) as I needed some gloves and the local LBS's don't bother selling them anymore


anyway - while I was there I noticed a notice on the counter saying that they have a new Policy

They no longer repair any ebike except Halfords ebikes

they will, apparently, replace tyres and tubes - but even then only if only the wheel itself is brought in


I presume it is a "ebike fire" sort of thing

but I thought the "New Policy" might be worth sharing around

also - no idea if this is just thins shop (Widnes) or country wide - it didn;t say!

Even removing the rear wheel can be a tiresome nightmare on many ebikes, and range of proprietary tools etc required must be vast. Stick to what you know rather than wasting staff time, and therefore money, trying to figure out what you dont.

That's fine, I have a policy also if not taking any bike to Halfords for repair

It's going to be because of illegal eBikes and motorbikes, not that it's likely most of those are going to see the right end of a spanner anyway. I suspect most LBSs will just laugh those out the shop if brought in, Halfords have just made it official.

Came up at my FLBS with a chap wanting an inner tube fitted. Halfords would not take it on because ‘not Halfords ebike’. Shop didn’t take it on because chap did not want to pay for the time it would take to do the job. Had problems believing the back wheel arrangement couldn’t ‘just’ be taken off the frame and the tube changed over.
