I just noticed Halford's are doing the basic Subway model at a special rate of £199.99 if you order it online. If you are after a cheap, reliably hybrid commuter it's worth a look.

Halfords always have them at the higher price, then drop them for a few weeks in the autumn. I bought my wife's for £1789.99 about 4 years ago.

They've also jiggled with the spec a bit. I believe that the cheapest is now lower spec than the old Subway 1.

I so want a Subway now. If I got a '1 I might whack on some decent Vs, change the wheels to Fulcrums and tyres to something more akin to poor weather and mud  Pannier rack too.Make it into a proper commuter.

Trouble is the lack of space. Need a second shed.

Sounds similar to what i did, apart from the Vs.

stuck city jets, spd`s,guards and a rack on and use it as my back up bike/ winter hack.

Intend to also use it as a pootler when the lad is old enough to want to cycle about.

was looking at the vanquish as a road bike upgrade on c2w but guess what ? the small is no longer stocked , any suggestions? needs a rack mount is possible?

Look at the Boardman roadies. Loverly stuff. Also Kona Dew with drops and disc brakes. I think both will take racks and stuff (unless you go higher up the price range and buy the more racey stuff)

Think we are tied into halfords brands(says so on company website ) , eg carrera,board-man and voodoo etc.

Looked at a kona dew drop in c+ and it got mixed reviews as it had a very hard ride, the entry boardmans are £ 699.and it would have to be a seat post rack tbh bit more than i wanted to spend as it would be a commuter (I would like to go out at weekend its just finding the time.
