I have, on a couple of occasions on meeting really great shop staff, sought out the manager to tell them. Usually when you approach them and ask "Are you the Manager?" they flinch as if bracing themselves for a complaint then relax visibly when you explain. It doesn't do any harm and might even get the shop assistant a bigger pay rise next time.

I emailed them, last night, to send a message in praise of yon laddo. He didn't have his badge on so I didn't get his name sadly but I described him. There can't be that many on at that time of day fitting his description.

Its such a shame this kind of person and attitude is so rare and hard to find. Dont know if I expect too much, but for a sales assistant to be polite and interested is 80% of what makes the difference to your shopping experience, knowledge and expertise helps too but most have this to some extent (ie. knowing their product/stock range). Dont get me started on restaurants/pub staff... But this is refreshing. Ive started posting a few reviews of good service on tripadvisor for hotels and restaurants, it must get their attention and hopefully the managers or owners realise they should reward the staff that act in the right way.

Yup Bishop Auckland branch had a similar individual in their bike department. Not seen him for a while now though so I'd guess he's moved on.

The last few times I've visited Riverside Halfords the salesperson has pointed out (must be company policy that they do it, I think) that on the receipt there is a link to comment on the service received and staff 'helpfulness'.
I've had the occasional issue with click and collect stuff not being there when promised, and short staffing at times, but the lads and lasses working there have never been less than extremely helpful.

It's so patchy, there are rubbish staff and excellent staff.

This. Every Halfords cycling department seems to be their own particular fiefdom. The one I used to use in Watford - they were all keen BMXers, but loved working on 'proper' bikes. They'd do easy jobs for free and on the spot, or at least while I went off shopping for an hour - BB facing, chopping down seatposts, etc. They were always helpful and enthusiastic.

I've always been a bit worried about the staff at Halfords , but in Gloucester they really seem clued in at the bicycle side of things.

Then when I picked the bike up today , first time out of the store I Get home and.........

The front reflector fell off LOL

I hope that caused you to reflect on the folly of buying from Halfrauds.
