I don't get your point. They are both selling a discounted Trail bundle Edge 800, at an online price of £320

Google the same details and you find they are the cheapest online price at the moment for that bundle. Do you hate Halfords because you think you ought to?

So we've established that Halfords' online price is as cheap as Winstanley's online price, and Winstanley have, based on the evidence availab le, left such a negative impression on one poster that he feels the need to tell us he'll never deal with them again.

Both companies are selling something that you either want or you don't want, at the best price available according to an online price check.

Are you going to buy one?

Was there a point to all this?

I went into Halfords last Sunday at 4.30pm in the vain hope I might find a pack of rotor bolts as I'd lost one from the Cube. They had them in stock, at an amazing price of less than three quid for six, so I bought them and some inner tubes as they were three for two, and availed myself of a cheap can of GT85. The department downstairs stocked the locktite I thought I needed, but then I saw that the threads of the rotor bolts were already treated.

To my horror a young family were in and were taking delivery of a BMX for a ten or eleven year old. The bike looked well put together and the yoof behind the counter was running through a couple of routine checks with Dad, while Mum and the youngster chose a Pisspot lid from the display. Not content with giving Dad advice and sounding quite knowledgeable, the guy also threw in a couple of suggestions and bits of sound advice about the helmet the lad wanted.

I slyly checked that the forks were the right way round on the BMX, and to my horror they were.

So Halfords were absolutely shite weren't they.

Halfords are just like any big shop (Winstanely's are probably the same) cheap for some things but dear for others; its called Proffit & Loss.

It is not profit and loss at all, that is the bottom line of accounts once all over heads have been paid. It is called loss leaders, in reality it is often cheap rubbish they have bought in to give the look of a bargain.

Cubist from my personal experience which is all I have to go on they are certainly not very good. Your personal experience differs. So which one of us is right?

Have to say I disagree. Most Halfords products - bikes and motor vehicles - is good quality. The Halfords criticism is usually aimed at the unpredictable customer service within the bicycle section.

But let me remind you - Halfords is the biggest bicycle seller in the UK. They must be doing something right to own that crown.

Moodyman, I have 40 years motor trade experience and 45+ cycling experience, am I not entitled to my opinion. For sure some of their products are fine, some are exceptional, some are rubbish. Much the same as their staff.

My post is all about my personal experience, I invite you to visit the 2 Lincoln stores with my to see how poor the staff are, how expensive whilst being able to convince the inexperienced they are getting value for money. What makes them big, the same thing that makes Tesco big, but for sure through choice you would not shop there would you.

I feel I have made my point.

The profit and loss part I took from an earlier post was talking about SOME products not all products.
