No but I have the ability to forward plan, I also stock service and consumable items. It is called being clever.

It is called being organised.

I would rather not shop at halfords but as others mentioned, they are open when you require that item. Halfords bashing is not a phenomenon but some see it as a great bandwagon. Get over it.

not sure i class being organised as clever but sometimes regardless of best laid plans we can come unstuck on a sunday or weeknight
i like halfords based on my own experience, others experience differs, does seem to be fashionable though to bash them, its as if you have to to fit in."If you dont hate halfords you not a true cyclist" attitude seems like snobbery to me

Not snobbery, just personal experience.

It always has been fashionable to bash them.

Many Local bike shop workers used to always disparage the Carrera range when it was nearly half the price of their similar specification kit.
Now their bricks and mortar stores are being compared to a sometimes fictional web buyers price.

I wouldn't discount anyone so completely. If, for example, I was tempted to buy a new Garmin 200 GPS thingy, should I ignore Halfords and pay considerably more than the £56 it's possible to get it for there when the product received will be identical? I wouldn't cut my nose off to spite my face.

I happily ride two excellent Boardman bikes... the CX which many on here believe is superb, and the 2010 Team Carbon which received practically universal acclaim as the best bike you could get for the money back then by some margin. Both were bought from and built by Halfords and I don't regret the purchases one iota.

Now obviously there are always going to be horror stories. They will always get far more notice than the good experiences, and perhaps the customer service at times in the past has been very poor, but I believe as a company they (while still far from perfect) are making strides to address this.

My experiences with Halfords, have on the whole, been better than those I've had at my LBS, and I know and trust at least two of the mechanics that work there to do difficult jobs on my bikes to an excellent standard. So forgive me, but I will continue to recommend Boardman bikes and the particular mechanics at my local store to my colleagues who join the C2W scheme, to my friends, and to those of you on here who are willing to listen.

Yes they can be diabolically atrocious but, when Halfords are the last shop in town still open on a Saturday night and they have the inner tube you need in stock then anyone would be a fool to refuse to deal with them!

Exactly. Then you see the 3 for 2 offer and realise a Joe Blow pump, Saddle bag and tyre come out pretty cheap! Some areas do employ useless or untrained staff but on the whole I think it is as david said - bike snobbery.

Or you watch and try and stop a guy hammering a 27.2 into a 27. The same you try and tell the customer that the monkey fitting his new bulbs should not be holding the new one in his fingers. Or you get called in to repair the dash on the car they have just try to lever the radio out of with old screwdrivers. Or the paint guy who tries to tell you there is only one variation of Peugeot silver in their mixing scheme, when you point out here is eleven in the book in front of him. Or the NOT so smart repair advisor tells the customer a year ago that the simple little PDR dent I repaired the next day needs the whole door filling and painting.

I am not too worried about a few pence here and there like some of you, I want quality top class service from experts, not semi skilled personnel.
