Have I sourced a replacement clamp? No. I imagine the only place to source such a thing would be a donor stand. Aldi don't tend to stock spares for their seasonal Bikemate specials! If one was available it'd probably cost as much as the stand did.

But I have by accident not design sourced a replacement stand. I bought a used bike from someone who was giving up and he threw in the stand.

I got the Aldi one 6 years ago which I think is the same. It's had a fair amount of use and still holding up, except the telescopic rod broke. The rivet fixing one of the end caps that carry the fastening straps snapped. I fixed it by drilling out the remains of the rivet and reattached with a self tapping screw and some epoxy. Good as new.

The biggest flaw is with the horizontal tube that holds the main clamp. It's almost impossible to tighten up the hand screw enough to stop it rotating. Reasonably easy to do it up enough to stop the bike rotating the tube from its own weight, even with a mid weight ebike. However exerting any extra force on the frame, such as pushing the rear wheel up into the dropouts, will twist the tube in the clamp, dropping the front of the bike. I worry that cranking it as hard as I can to stop this is going to stress that plastic clamp which will snap at some point. Hopefully not with the bike suspended!

I've found that carbon fibre grip paste helps on my Aldi stand.

Would a length of MTB tubing not fit?

I used to have a really cheap functional, work stand consisting of a couple of hooks driven into the joist/beam in my garage and a bit of rope. I just dangled the bike from it. Id love to say it was cheap simple and effective but it was a bit rubbish really.

Well, in the end, despite kind offers, I bought a new workstand from Amazon for the grand sum of £38.
Frankly, I’m astounded by the quality and It’s far more robust than I anticipated. Perfect for my needs.

I got one from amazon best part of a decade ago, still have it - things to watch for are the plastic parts becoming a touch brittle - but I ended up getting a new one this year because I lost a rubber gripper somehow.
