I don't usually promote big chain-stores, I prefer to use LBS etc, but I went to Halford's yesterday, and was mighty impressed... It seems they are really trying to take on Decathlon and IMHO are doing a pretty good job.....
I bought..
1) cyclocutters_zpsc09ead14.jpe
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...01&langId=-1&productId=525675&catalogId=10151

These are £34.99 at Evan's and other bike shops of good repute, £17.99 reserve and collect = nice!

2)
turtle_zps5780b039.jpe

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...01&langId=-1&productId=166461&catalogId=10151
1/2 price = £1.99

3) shimcable_zpsa7d21906.jpg

I guess I just got lucky, original price £11.99, reduced to £8.00, reduced to £5.00, reduced web price £3.20.......... I reserved and collected. I got to the shop, and the manger said, you can have that for 50p. And I have another one here, do you want that as well?
I nearly took his arm off, and said "I'll empty the shop at that price!"

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_216251_langId_-1_categoryId_273959

3) I have just noticed that these are £0.79p on web price, but even in-store @ £1.00 are a bargain.....
waterbottle_zpsccb59b7d.jpe

I can look like a real 'Pro roadie" (twat) by simply throwing them in to a hedge after use when out with the cycle club.....

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...01&langId=-1&productId=385205&catalogId=10151

I have not actually tried these yet, and can't find them on Halfords website, so here is a Screwfix link.....
swarfega_zpsc2fd9cb9.png

http://www.screwfix.com/p/swarfega-heavy-duty-wipes-pack-of-15/80687#

But at Halford's these are 50p a pack, and three for two so £1.00 for three packs of the perfect thing for mickleing (tm) (c) the chain and for 'flossing' the cassette, better than baby wipes, as they contain alcohols and and other solvents/degreasers...

Also, most 'products' ie lubes, cleaning, etc etc are on 3 for two offer ATM.. so stock up the fettling shed......
Also cycling accessories are on three for two as well, so canny choosing can get some proper bargains...

And finally............

zelos_zps86cda1e4.jpe
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_927683_langId_-1_categoryId_165710

£300.00? I nearly bought one just 'because'..... and genuine competition for the Decathlon B'twin Triban IMHO.......

Yes, Halfords used to/probably still does - get a lot of undeserved stick. A certain past member of the London cycling community used to slag them off, I think because of the car association - maybe he reckoned that if you went in for a bike bit they were going to pin you to the wall until you walked out with a car.

They used to do a fair bit of Polaris clothing - it was very good value. Also "Bicycle Line" clothing, though not maybe any more. Bicycle Line stuff wasn't the flashest/smoothest stuff you'd ever see but it was decent servicable day to day stuff - I have a lot of thin lycra shorts I got for £7 on a half price offer - fine for a day ride. I think it's actually an Italian company but with stuff made in Rumania - seen it in Italian bike shops for substantially more than Halfords.

They also do lots of useful bits and bobs - bearings etc - in small packs.

My only gripe with them - went in recently to collect a web ordered bit and I was told that if I went onto their customer reaction page and ranked that store "excellent" I would be in line for a big prize in a raffle. Just so I didn't forget, the staff member, who had been helpful, circled the word "excellent" on the piece of paper she handed me, just so I wouldn't forget. As I suspected, when I checked the page you were supposedly in line for the prize just for responding. Or maybe not - maybe only the total enthusiasts were entered ...

thanks for the link though wakou - I'll check it out more, though I shouldn't really buy anything ...

Thanks for the heads up- just reserved some bottles and the brake kit- I'm now awaiting a phone call to say they can't find them in shop (what normally happens).
And bravo on buying the reasonable looking Carrera just 'because' - SWMBO would never let that one through the net! lol

I bought the Zelos last bank holiday because it was all I could afford seeing as I couldn't get onto the C2W scheme. It's proving to be a great bike.

I spotted the cable kit two or three weeks ago, but when I tried to reserve, it reported 'out of stock' in any store, so I presumed a web-techy's mistake.... but they are out there......

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I must admit my nearest decent sized halfords has a couple of very keen cyclists there so they do tend to have a clue .
Bought 2 sets of the m530s as and upgrade for my bikes from m520s as i sometimes feel they latter does need a wider platform on them and maybe the reason why i have had 3 pairs of shoes split on the sole due to excessive force/ flex .
