Alexandra Burke's version is good but she didn't 'give it' enough !

No it's not ... it's a thoughtless mish mash of every lazy vocal cliche there is, submerged under sickly production which sucks all the soul out of it and replaces it with undemanding aural candyfloss for those who don't like music. It's unreservedly awful.
The Shrek version, incidentally, is by John Cale, not Rufus Wainwright.

Glad to see I'm not alone in disliking it then!

Cohen:

Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

And his version gets my vote.

Ever read any of Cohen's books? I read Beautiful Losers I think, weird as you'd expect but also quite erotic.

Never have. I'm a bit wary of reading stuff written by songwriters and musicians. It's a prejudice, I should try to get over it.

re

I like the Shrek version.

I saw LC on a tv concert once. My mate described him as Mr Spock to music

I have to say I don't rate Jeff Buckley tbh. Not my bag. ;)
