Halloween commercialism why ?

Not ridden today due to fog, so took my lad to Meadowhell to the pictures....it's a while since I was there last (thankfully) but I was amazed at the way most of the shops were pushing halloween, the most bizarre creations in some shop windows from jewellers to phone shops !

I got to wondering - 'what the hell is it all about ? (pardon the pun), Why is halloween suddenly such a big thing? sure I remember trick or treating as a kid but certainly it was never such a big event.

And another thing (Victor Meldrew voice) Why on earth do we make more of the concept of the 'devil / ghosts, all that's evil' etc
but make less of a fuss when religion is mentioned ?

Not that I'm religious, but it set me thinking that's all.

Halloween is mega big in the States. We follow poodle like. My advice? Just ignore it.

Its original purpose was to celebrate All Saints Day, but that's long since forgotten.
Just like Christmas...there was a chap called Jesus who was born, but that's long since forgotten by many.
