Were you the cyclist being threatened / swerved into by an aggressive runt in a red Volvo near Hampton Wick station at around 8am this morning?

If so, I have the registration number (R706 HCD). Me and another female cyclist are also prepared to give witness statements if you want him done for dangerous driving / theratening behaviour.

If you have any work colleagues / friends /family that tell you about this then can you please point them in the direction of this thread?

Appreciate the moment has now passed, but you'll probably be preventing a future injury if you do so ... this guy is way too much of a prick to be holding a driving license.

Go to the police immediately with the details, and they will look into it. The police do say 'no victim, no crime' which means if the cyclist doesn't come forward they can't pursue that angle, but you can make a complaint under S5 Public Order Act. The driver could also get a S59 warning.

I wasn't on my bike as I had my kids in the pushchair on the pavement.

First I saw was a red Volvo rounding the corner and swerving into a cyclist (narrow miss), the cyclist shouted and the driver of the Volvo (red faced scrawny runt) had his passenger window wound down and leaning across (therefore obviously not looking where he was going) yelling "I'm going punch your ****ing face in" and similar. The driver got in front of the cyclist then braked suddenly and continued swerving in and yelling - this continued for around 150 metres.

The driver did actually stop at one point and it looked like he was about to get out of the car ... I couldn't intervene here (probably a good thing as I'd have had the ****er over his bonnet by the throat) as by now the car was a good 100 metres away and I'd have had to leave the pushchair at the side of the road, so just made a note of the registration. Driver then sped off and out of sight round a bend, so I have no idea if this continued further on.

I tried to hail the cyclist to let him know he'd got a witness if he needed one, but he hadn't seen me and carried on.

A woman with her daughter in a child seat on her bike waiting to join the road also saw the same thing (I later met her at the nursery) - basically, we're both prepared to give witness statements if the cyclist wants to come forward.

Sounds like a complete @$$hole ... I'll bet the cyclist was intimidated ... that kind of car-driver runt will never ever pick on someone who looks like they can defend themselves.

That kind of person is certainly in the minority, it's just a shame that the rest of us have to share the roads with them.

What exactly happened? That sounds like pretty extreme behaviour - totally unacceptable.

ComedyPilot - Warum hast du dein Herz in Stadtbibliothek verloren? Was macht das???! Ich bin ganz verwirrt ...

It's the opening line to a favourite German song of mine, Du Willst Mich Kuessen by Die Aerzte.

Rhys,

That sound like a fairly nasty incident - I'll second CP's comment and say report it. It may or may not achieve much - but even if nothing much comes of it, the registration will be on the system and might help the next person who has to suffer this idiot.

Update:

Actually caught up with the cyclist at roughly the same time / place today. He's now got the car reg and my name / number. Really hope he'll take it forward as the 2@ in the car really shouldn't be on the road.

The first he was actually aware of it was when the driver pulled out to pass, slowed down level and started hurling abuse - he gave some verbals back and that's when it all kicked off. The thing that really pissed me off (apart from the harassing of the cyclist) was that it's a relatively narrow and bendy stretch of road near Hampton wick station where there are pedestrians crossing, schoolkids waiting for buses, parents taking kids to nursery etc etc and the guy* was clearly out of control.

*Trying to keep a lid on the language, but for 'guy' please read "Donkey's bellend"

I know that stretch of road quite well as cycle it all the time. Its bendy, bad sufaced, parked cars every where and a proper rat run.. Still, some nice fish n chips shops though!

Am completely with ComedyPilot.

I also know that stretch pretty well – great fish and chips and not a bad bike shop close to K'ston bridge....

sounds like a right dangerous driver. Well done for making a note of the reg and posting the incident here – if only more people were ready to take such a stand… keep us up to date won’t you

Report it to the Police....Sounds as if there is enough for an Affray. Make sure you report it too...If you can get his (the victims) details and pass them to the police that would help.
