Handlebar bag alternatives

There isn't much space on my handlebar to fit a bag mount, I'm not very keen on forcing the cable (on the right) to make space in case it causes damage or interferes with the braking.

I had a different bike last year which had a different cockpit and I found my handlebar bag was ideal for keeping my wallet, phone, keys etc while touring.

This year I'm not sure I'll be taking the bag (a shame because it's great) because of the aforementioned so I'm in a bit of a quandary regarding how to store my 'essentials' - I don't like wearing a rucksack regardless of how light - so would really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions?

All advice grateful.

Thanks

Thanks tissot, I hadn't even thought of one - that's why I come on here!

I'd be loathe to buy something new and, me being odd, like the idea of my valuables always being insight however this is exactly the advice I'm after so never say never ...

Saddle bags are very secure by attachment to the saddle rails and the seat post Via Velcro straps
I do use one ... and I keep my Phone/money in my jersey back pocket.

''like the idea of my valuables always being insight''

what about one of those which fit around UNDER the top tube at the front
Thanks, I'd just spotted one. Seems there is also a mini pannier version for the top tube, too. Decisions, decisions. Too much choice!

I use one of these - http://www.topeak.com/products/bags/TriBag_raincover - keys, phone & spare pair of contact lenses live in it.

I have a saddle bag for tyre levers, p* kit, tube and multi tool. (One of these; http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/ftr/bagstools/seat-bags/miniwedgie )

On the tourer I use either a Carradice Super C Audax, or a Lowsaddle Longflap (both probably overkill unless you need to carry a lot of stuff).

Non cycling specific but I use a Snugpak Response bag as a bar or rack bag sometimes. It fastens to the bars quite easily, leaving no permanent fittings. It also has a belt strap (that can be fastened and concealed out of the way if you're not using it) for taking with you off the bike.
