I’ve had the new Carrera Subway Ltd out for a test / adjust 15 miler today I.E adjusted the gears correctly, seat height / length in relation to my position over the bike and a few little tweaks here and there.

I’ve came back and the base of my spine is killing me as well as some numbness of the hands (don't get this on my other bike), which would indicate to me the front section of the bike is way too low for me and I’m applying too much weight there.

I think the cure will be to change the Stem for a one with a bit more rise in it, but which one should I choose? Should I go for a solid one with a bit more rise like this one below

http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebw...tOrderID=1&f_bct=c003154c003227c003230c003234

or shall I opt for an adjustable one like this

http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebw...tOrderID=1&f_bct=c003154c003227c003230c003234

and are these adjustable ones pretty strong? as I don't want to find a little while down the line they snap off (I've seen a broken one before)

many thanks in advance

I had the same dilema when I bought a new bike a month ago, the solution that I went for

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/delta/stem-raiser-ec005113?query=headset raiser

took less than 10 mins to fit and made riding so much more comfortable.

Go for the solid one

I bought an adjustable to use in the opposite way, hoping to lower my TT profile by gradually lower it in increments. The damn thing nearly drove me crazy with it's creaking

Have to be honest and say i wasn't unhappy when a car hit me and bent the thing and rendered it useless.

I've got two bikes with adjustable stems and they've covered over 3k miles. Yep, creaking can be an issue, but I don't really notice the noise now, until someone points it out. My plan is still to get bike setup spot on then swap out adjustable for fixed stem. As I've been constantly tinkering with saddles, bars etc, I'm really glad I've had the adjustable ones.

I'd have a look for one second hand, I intend to sell mine on when happy with setups and would imagine others do the same. Sadly I'm still tinkering or I'd offer you one of mine. Maybe a post in the wanted section here might bring results.
