Hi, I've been a casual cyclist for many years, but now starting to up my interest. (Yes, weight and age like so many others here it seems). I've had a Dawes Diploma for many years but recently bought an old Triumph 10 speed racer to help make up my mind which way to go when I buy new next year, drop handlebars or straight.

I find the handlebars quite narrow on the Triumph, about 40cm, and was thinking of fitting new 46cm ones which seem to be the broadest available albeit they're still slightly narrower than my shoulder width of 52cm.

My normal runs are in the 20-30 miles bracket with the occasional 50 mile plus.

Any advice anyone?

Many thanks for that; it' probably the clearest advice I've come across. I'm now thinking that I'll need a longer stem as well.
