What is a Happy Bastille anyway? Is it like a Happy Meal, (only without the toy)?

Available only in MacDonalds in France. A happy meal but with a minature Marie Antionette with removable head instead of a toy. €1.99

Bastille Day seems to be the French equivalent of Guy Fawkes day (or the USA's independence day).

In the UK we celebrate the capture, torture and execution of a Roman Catholic would-be terrorist and in France they celebrate the liberation of a bunch of prisoners from a political prison.

That said, both countries have a bloody history of religious intolerance and racism.

The French do good firework displays, tho'.

One would think they could do a bit of pope and circumstance - like the Brits

...and Guy Fawkes has been eased aside by Diwali
