There was a Radio 4 programme about Star Trek the other week which made similar claims. It was a good listen but... i reckon we'd have still had mobile phones, touch screens, 3d printers etc. without Star Trek....
In as much as any television series can, it's influenced a lot of people, eg........
- NASA Astronauts have credited it, for their following that path into space
- would we have touch-screens/iPads/'tablets' without the programmes??
I'm just waiting here quietly for something to happen.
I'm surprised it hasn't yet, but it will and I shall summon up the Wrath of Khan against the guilty party.
Don't say I didn't warn you!

Come on.Wasn't JRR Tolkien credited with 'introducing' mobile phones in Lord of the Rings with his 'talking glass' or whatever it was called in the book?
Come on.
A pretty big fan myself though I preferred DS9 to the others, Ive even been following a 50th anniversary podcast on my commute. They are watching every episode in a year, thats 729 episodes and films. It had to be me. Happy Birthday to my fave show, still boldly going after half a century.
Gosh. Just looked her up and found she died aged 49, complications from an earlier car crash. As a youngster I really enjoyed the first series (and film) but never bothered/was interested in the series that followed.
And I seem to remember finding this lady in the first film extremely attractive.

Eileen?
If you've read LOTR you'll know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, come off it.
