How old are you?

And what type of bike do you have?

Because I can do 11 miles in 40mins on my hybrid bike.

I know I can go faster but it's a mental state as when my legs hurt I slow down when there is no need to.

So go harder and faster!!!

Its not always about speed-freak stuff, some riders naturally fall into a cadence/speed of their own.

I have a large backpack weighing at least 15kg.

I wanna go faster but at times I'm not in the right mind frame. I wish I could just push myself to breaking point some times

You should think about a rack and panniers soup man as cycling and carrying a large back pack weighing 15kg is not good. It must be a very cheap crappy brand if it weighs 15kg ?

I suspect it's backpack and contents that weigh 15 kilos!
Crankers is dead right though. Get a rack and panniers. You know it makes sense.

Backpacks are fine for light weight stuff, but I'd reckon you'd get on better with a couple of small pannier bags. It gives your back a much needed break from the weight, and you stay cooler. I tend to find should checking is easier too

I tried panniers and just couldn't get on with them. I use a backpack and it can have some serious weight in it but am used to it now (it also makes weekend riding without it a dream!). I wouldn't worry about speed. I spent a phase trying to get my speed up to an average of over 16mph on every ride...When I did, I realised that I didn't enjoy any of the rides as I was miserably pushing away as hard as I could, usually with my head down looking at the tarmac. Now have realised that it's much better just going at your own pace enjoying the scenery :-)
