Neither hard core or a nutter, but still cycled in this morning, some of us have work and no other transport. (wasn't -2°c here unless you count the wind chill) If you are careful you can safely cycle on UK roads when it is -12 °c with snow and ice on the ground. you just have to cycle to the conditions.

Ill take it steady tomorrow morning then.... shall be cycling around 7:30 am-

This morning my car said it was -2 and I checked 4 times on my 15 miles drive to work and still said the same.
Commiserations, Martin. Are they putting you on allopurinol? (Sorry if this is taking it off-topic)
I know this will sound stupid but I've always resisted allopurinol. My brother (who also suffers badly) is on it and keeps going on at me but I see it as "cheating" in some way and try to manage the triggers instead. I have Naxopren to treat it reactively but this particularly bout has been bad as I had a stomach bug coming into last week which was making me feel ill. Naxopren also makes me feel ill so I held off taking it until last Thursday, however by then the gout had taken hold and I couldn't walk. Pain is receding now but foot won't go into a normal shoe.

After a fall on ice last week I was dubious about cycling this morning especially with frost on the cars- however 12 miles later and my biggest problem was the rain when only in a soft shell jacket.

Thermometer read zero this morning, but the roads in South Glos weren't very icy, surprisingly. Gloves on the radiator before setting off helped !

half degree below this morning.
It's not nutters riding in low temperatures. It's cyclists that have the right gear as to not feel the cold.
Damn straight! Needed two pairs of socks, as Converse all-star lows seem to have all the wind-resistance & thermal properties of a teabag.
