-2 Deg C for me today and with bar mitts and Giant Longs was warm everywhere except for the feet. At the moment I can't find any overshoes out here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew I forgot something this morning, overshoes! Feet were like blocks of ice when I got to work this morning, despite three pairs of socks on. The really annoying thing is the overshoes are in the rucksack that was on my back for the whole trip.

Because falling over at 2mph on the pavement is a lot more appealing than falling at 15+ in traffic, especially when doing so could be pricey if your bike gets damaged.

Do you fall over at -2? Not very good are you.

I know where my towel is
Passed someone today in shorts. He did have long socks on and the shorts weren't that short, so only his knees exposed.

I have been in shorts all winter here in East London, mountain bike ones, but I also wear blue football socks, so like the person you saw today, just the knees exposed.
It's just not been cold enough yet to go for trousers, and I find it better to keep the core warm (for which I have a fleece running top and a bright red altura night vision jacket).

I shall just pop in here before a fight starts.

In my opinion, I won't ride my usual bike if the temps are below zero and the side roads are frosted up badly. I have, many years ago, had a really bad incident with black ice (well 3 in one commute). That stopped me and I was young and single with no kids.

Roll on 20 years or so, come Xmas 2010, saw the forecast for the return to work. below freezing for over two weeks. drove in first day back and saw a guy picking his way along the road on his bike. Went back, ordered said tyres from wiggle.

Next day. A foot of snow. MTB in normal mode got me to work on fresh snow. Tyres now stuck at depot, so managed to drive there and collected late evening.

Fitted tyres, ice was history.

There's an important “and“ in there. Most of the time at -2 it isn't like that.
