Harrow removing cycle lanes

Bus Lanes are a funny one as ironically in a lot of places they hamper other measures that would be friendly to cyclists and peds - road narrowing, putting in crossings, cycle stands etc.

WTF? Road narrowings are awful for cyclists!

Transport planners use these and cyclists to help keep traffic speeds down - the cyclists act like rolling roadblocks for drivers.

The general move to remove street furniture is a double edged sword. Went to lock my bike up on Streatham high road on Saturday and all the sodding sheffield stands have vanished.

Crikey, that's not good! We need more cycle stands IMO.

It's not a WTF moment. We're talking roads that have 4 lanes and no central reservation being "narrowed" to 2 very wide single lanes. Such roads are not dangerous for cyclists, they are normally very good for cyclists.

The road I have in mind if you stripped out the two bus lanes, extended the pavement each side by a couple of feet and got rid of much of the parking (whether in bus lanes or otherwise) and reduced the speed limit it would probably be much safer for cyclists. At the moment it's statistically the most dangerous road for cyclists round here and it has pretty bad ped numbers too.

I hope they do this everywhere in the UK!!!!

I used to say that, but I believe the false sense of security they provide novices probably (note the use of that word as this is my opinion) encourages more people to ride bikes on the roads. The more cyclists there are on the road the safer it is for me.

So, they help me indirectly, even though 99% of my riding is done on roads that don't have cycle lanes and I rarely ever use them when they are there (but there are a couple I use in order to take shortcuts or easier routes).
