Has anyone got any recommendations for a good quality bar tape?

Skateboard deck tape.

Fizik performance or Lizardskins (the 3.2mm is lush and very comfy but thick and quite costly, they also do a 2.5mm I think)

Specialized Phat gets good reviews but only comes in black unfortunately

Bit depends on your budget and colour preferences

I have specialized bar phat on 2 of my bikes & am happy enouth with it that when the Allez needs re wrapping it will get bar phat as well.
Really need to know what you are looking for in bar tape.

I really need it to be comfortable to grip with or without gloves, and have some buzz damping capability. My budget is flexible, I don't mind what colour it is, dark is my preference.

The set up I've got enables me to ride comfortably gloved and bare handed (I discovered this the other day when I forgot my gloves). It's also quite bulky, so it fits my hands (I'll try to upload a photo later).
What I did was apply the gel pads from the Specialized Bar Phat tape, then I reused the old tape (which I'd taken off carefully) as a first wrap. I then finished it with the tape from the Bar Phat (which is actually Rubaix Wide tape).
It's got a slight squishy feel which deadens road vibrations & having a slightly wider diameter it's good when I have "bad hand" days.

I have used the Specialized Bar Phat but now use the Specialized cork tape and find it soaks the bumps better. It is also very comfortable to use without gloves as I found out when I lost my gloves while cycling to Paris earlier this year...!

And did this.

18 quid, and it included the expanding bar plugs. It's really comfy, and sticks to your gloves / hands like shite to a blanket.

I use cloth athletic tape over foam. Cheaper, and easier to get custom results(more padding where I put my hands, and less where I don't). If it starts looking bad, another layer of tape. Gives everything a classic, tailored look. I may try leather stitched on the bars over winter. As soon as my supplier(some guy throwing out an old leather sofa)comes through.
