I wear a Yellow, reflective waistcoat type Hi-Viz, like this one but without the black. They are part of our PPE at work so its free.

I get mine through work as well. I've got approximately three thousand million of them in a box downstairs.

I've read suggestions somewhere that orange dayglo is better in spring, when there is a lot of bright green foliage around, but it loses its edge in autumn when the leaves take on red/orange hues.

This assumes, of course, you're out somewhere with lots of deciduous shrubs and trees.

When the sky is hi-viz yellow
When the buildings are hi-viz yellow
When tarmac is hi-viz yellow
When cars are hi-viz yellow
When the grass and trees are hi-viz yellow

Is the day I wear a grey top.

Which is why I've never seen the point of camouflage-pattern cycling jackets. Gore-Tex do one. I mean, why would you want to blend in with the background more?

I'm not sure Hi-viz makes much difference on bright, sunny days - I think the key is contrasting with your surroundings. Hi-viz definitely seems to work better on very overcast days and at twighlight.

Off-road use - not everyone wants to look like a lollipop man/lady in the countryside.

I know what you mean, but the ones I saw were in the road/commuting bits of On Yer Bike at London Bridge. Camo is also a popular pattern for motorcycle clothing.

Myself I am not enamoured with the saffron yellow hi viz at night - becomes inneffective under sodium lighting - whilst I own both both highway yellow and railway orange Hi Viz I prefer to use a cycling specific two tone vest - both yellow and orange with a lot of good quality reflective material on it - the latest Class 3 highway vests are going the same way

Yes this seems to work with me also.

I saw a guy with the 'desert' style camo of white, brown and black. It stood out quite well.

I'd mentioned before on another thread I thought the yellow/green had lost it's effectiveness - I wear one "like" this(can't find my NiteZone). I also wear reflective slap straps on my ankles and wrists at nite.

Although I always ride with a flashing B-Spoke 0.5W front and rear both nite and day, as a supplement to my other lights that I only have on at night.

I'll also add I never wore Hi-Viz as a Motorcyclist - although I did ride with my lights on day and night. ;)

IMO, on a motorbike, I travel at a similar speed to other vehicular traffic so I don't need to stand out as much.

Cycling, however, I travel at a much lower speed (outside town) so I do what I can to be visible.

Personal choice, though. ;)

Yellow Hi-viz can be seen, yes. Everyone who's job involves walking around site ( JaguarLandRover) must wear a hi-viz tabbard.

Trouble is, there's so much of it around, drivers have to look twice to see if it's a ped or cyclist.

A group of road construction workers at a workings just south of Warwick stand out like a sore thumb. If I was wearing the same, the motorists would take a cursory glance and see me as one of the workmen and think I was walking, not heading toward the road narrowing at 15 mph.

I wear bright red with reflex strips on the cuffs.
I hope the motorists see me as a cyclist and not another hi-viz ped.

So you don't get assaulted. There are a number of estates round here that if you cycle through them with hi-viz on you'll get much more abuse things like stones, tiles, bottles, fruit, cans thrown at you if you don't wear it.

Wearing solid blocks of colour is better than, say, team kit or other clothing with patterns on. The whole trick of camouflage, and the whole reason it works, is that it breaks up recognisable shapes. This is exactly what team kit does, and in the wrong circumstances someone wearing patterned clothing may well be invisible to the car driver behind, no matter how brightly coloured their clothing. This is why I like the roadworker's tabard, at risk of repeating myself: because the two horizontal stripes around the waist and one over each shoulder maintains the shape of the human body and is instantly recognisable to drivers. And if I'm not wearing hi viz, I wear a plain red or blue top.

Favourite Cool weather top (daytime only) is Pink so bright it hurts your eyes.....Stands out from the crowd. There is so much Dayglo yellow out there people notice it but don't SEE it!
