Who do I get to share a double room with?
I organised a mountain biking weekend in the Lake District for myself and a bunch of colleagues. I invited everyone, worked out the numbers, asked about preferences and so on. Some people wanted to keep the cost down, and didn't mind sharing, so I allocated them twin bedrooms. I wanted my own space and was willing to pay for the privilege, so I paid twice as much and got a double bedroom in the attic.
So, we drove up there, dropped our stuff off, then went for a curry in Keswick. Shortly after we got back to the house, several other colleagues drove up unannounced, and started enquiring about the sleeping arrangements. I got a bit stroppy about it. I had chosen the accommodation based on the numbers who signed up in advance and then some guy turns up out of the blue and tries to make out that I am selfish for refusing to let him share a double bed with me!
The gatecrashers were made to sleep on the sofas downstairs. I can't remember if they made a contribution towards the cost of renting the house for the weekend.
