Hats off to McDonalds & Sports Direct!

Two separate incidents of idiocy on my part yesterday, both overcome by 'the kindness of strangers'.

First, in McD's (for, I hasten to add, the first time in about a year - we were hungry and there was just nowhere else around), I somehow managed to tip over my freshly made cup of tea - all over the tray, all over me, all over the floor. They were really nice about it - all 'don't worry', 'are you ok?' and running around to replace all the food and clear up...

Second, got to the checkout at Sports Direct to discover I'd left in such a hurry, I'd left my wallet and phone on the bed when I got changed. I explained to the girl that not only couldn't I pay for anything, or ring for help, I couldn't even go and get my wallet because I'd locked my bike and the key was in my wallet. At first she just said the phone couldn't make any but internal calls, but when I fully explained my dilemma, she got a colleague who took me down to the front desk where a security bloke let me use his personal mobile to call for rescue.

I'm sure all the people involved do their thankless jobs at or around minimum wage but they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

MaccyDs in Victoria Street will serve the homeless people who shelter round there, and with good grace and perfect politeness. Most of these customers want to take their time about a cup of tea, but some are incoherent and smelly, and they are treated with the same consideration as any one of us would be
