I saw a man of similar age / appearance to me today, but he was wearing a hat! A trilby / fedora type thing, and a very smart suit.

I was taken aback, because I realised that I too could look like that, with a hat.

One of the greatest sartorial shames of modern times is that we can't look like film noir private detectives without getting the piss ripped out of us.

I have a very nice trilby,re. photo, which I wore back in the day. I to would now like to wear it again, and reclaim the hat as de riguer piece of clothing, but this time without the fear of being called "grandad" and "Mr. Chomondley-Warner."

I myself wear benny hats and I've now got a Coldplay army type hat, which I bought from Gap.

But you can't just wear a trilby without a decent suit and shoes.

Nothing ironic about my hat wearing - I can just look great in all kinds of hats! It must be hard for those who struggle.
