I'm interested in what they do when they need the Stig in a non-driving situation - like the race across London. It would make sense to use an actor or someone with an understanding of mime, in order to convey feelings via body language. I've always though that whoever is in that suit in those bits makes a good job of conveying confusion, or contempt, or whatever.
