300km a week through London on a road bike.
Look round and you can get some cracking motors for little money.
This is true, I've just bought a 2003 motorcycle with only 4000 miles on the clock. Soooo excited to get my hands on it!

I don't think the OP's girlfriend wants a motorcycle...but a car
I'm wasn't suggesting she does, I was agreeing with the fact that there are some cracking deals to be found with respect to the second hand vehicle market.

Is that a good deal, really, sounds like a lot for something that is 13 years old, has only two wheels and no roof ;) £40 sounds more like a good deal to me

My M reg Micra died the day before yesterday. Gearbox went and it's about £700 to fix it. Last time I ever have an auto. I spent 4 biggies, plus an extra half a biggie on a lovely S reg Micra in a fetching shade of red (Red ones are faster).:wahhey: The biggies in my case being hundreds, not thousands. My husband was deeply happy and thinks that it's brilliant :okay:
I once spent £900 on a car - which lasted 4 years or so - and I don't think Hubs ever got over the shock of spending so much on a car. However, if I was to spend double that on a bike (or a guitar) he would be perfectly fine about it.

£4K for a 13 year old motorbike
You need to read things more closely, I said it has 4000 miles on the clock, not that it cost £4,000.00.
That said so does £40, I don't get the point of motorbikes at all beyond a scooter for commuting
Some (not me), might say they don't get the point in cycling but most of us don't take any notice of that and put it down to ignorance.

You didn't say how much it cost, and as the OP related to a 4k car...so it cost £40 then, might be a good deal

Enlighten me on the benefits of motorcycling. Cycling gets you fit, and causes no pollution, neither to air quality nor noise pollution...motorbikes on the other hand?

It benefits the motorcycle enthusiast by being enjoyable, and can also be used as regular transport that takes up less room on roads, can use most bus lanes, and usually be parked for free etc etc.

Going back to OP - for me it's either a grand on a used car, or PCP. Anything in between is potentially a big expense for what is essentially still a used, older car with no warranty or protection against future expensive repairs. It's all a gamble I know, but my wife has had 4 cars since I met her, they were all in the £3k - £5k bracket and they all were traded in due to unreliability (at great expense to herself I might add). Spending more these days doesn't often guarantee piece of mind.

Nope no appeal at all. Anymore than going down a hill at 40mph or more on a bike or driving a car round a racetrack
